A Griefers Guide to Pocket Kingdom
[Elynotis: Basic Gameplay]Forming up the Troops
Unfortunately, you start out with no troops. None. Your Fabbis helpfully advises you to go hire some units from the Shop, and without any other alternative that's pretty much all you can do. Luckily, newbie units come cheap, so you'll be able to form a few parties easily enough. I suggest picking up enough green troops to form two of the following groups:
|   | Unit | Equipment | Tactics |
| 1. | Soldier | None | Front Position |
| 2. | Soldier | None | Front Position |
| 3. | Noble | None | Front Position |
| 4. | Noble | None | Low HP |
It will cost you about 2000 loot, but you'll have two fairly balanced parties to start training up for promotion. Although every unit will gain a level after surviving a battle, levels don't increase power - instead, only a Rank Up will make the unit more powerful, and you need a certain number of levels to promote. If you have a unit with enough levels to rank up, but don't have access to the lab or the emblems to do it, swap them out for another unit so you're not 'wasting' levels.
You only need two parties for now, because there are no enemies to attack you in the first two maps. Once the Defense option is available, you'll need to assign a party to defend your castle - when that happens, you'll want to purchase enough units to form a third party and quickly train them up to speed.
Scouting the Land
Now that you have two basic parties, it's time to start exploring Elynotis. Start off by heading out to the map, and sending both your parties out on a Scout Area mission - you'll usually be able to send the second party out before the first one gets back. Every time you scout an area you have a chance to discover other kingdoms or dungeons, as well as to snag random items your units 'find' along the way.
After a few seconds, your troops will begin to return, carrying with them the spoils of war and news of other kingdoms. The number of kingdoms your troops will find depends on the searching skill of the party, which will increase as units are promoted into more powerful ranks. The kingdoms you've located will appear on your map screen as little castles, but other than their presence you won't know anything about them. To fix that, choose to Search again, but instead of searching the area choose to Scout this time - you'll be asked to select a castle, and then your troops will be off.
Scouting only takes a moment, but can give you valuable information about your enemy. Most importantly will be their defense power, which can give you an idea of how your own troops will stack up. The closer their defense is to your offense, the more challenging the battle will be. Scouting will also tell you the type of area you'll be fighting in, which can be useful when handing out elemental equipment.
Attack, my minions!
Now that you have a party to attack with, and an opponent to attack, all that's left to do is to give the order. Select Attack from the map menu, choose the kingdom you scouted out before, and select one of your attack parties. If you have time before the battle begins, you can send your other party out to either scout the area again for new enemies, or to attack another kingdom. Only one of your parties can attack any given kingdom at a time though, so if you want two attacking groups you'll need to attack different targets.
After a moment, the battle will begin. Just sit back and relax - there's nothing you can do at this point, other than hope your units, equipment, and tactics are good enough to win you this battle. Given the limitations of the first map, unless you get very unlucky there's little chance of a loss, though you may lose a unit or two. When a unit is defeated, you get one of two different messages:
OUTGiven that your units are as green as they come, and don't have any equipment yet, either of those two outcomes aren't going to be very damaging. If a unit gets 0wned, just purchase another at the Shop and replace them. If they're knocked out, heal them up using the Medical option in the Party menu and put them back in the party.
A unit that is out is injured beyond being able to battle, but can be restored by the kingdom Medic. Any item this unit was carrying is lost, and it is removed from the party, but it will still gain a level from the battle. Make sure you heal it up and add it back into the party before you send them out to fight again.
0WNED
A unit that is owned is gone forever, as is any item they were carrying. It takes a rather large amount of damage to completely own a unit, but considering the amount of time that goes into getting a unit ranked highly it can be a very painful result.
Lather, Rinse, Repeat
For the first map, you've experienced all the gameplay you're going to find. Things don't get interesting until the Lab is open for use - and for that, you need to get to Cressence. Continue searching and attacking kingdoms in this area until you uncover Castle Matres, which is the boss castle for Elynotis. This may be a bit tougher than the other battles in the area, but you shouldn't have too much trouble with it.
Losing a battle isn't a horrible thing though, as any units you've managed to knock out of the battle won't return for the next round, while you can heal yours up and take another swing.
Once you win the battle, your Fabbis will alert you that you've unlocked the path to Cressence, you are now able to move your Kingdom, and (most importantly) the Lab is available for use.
