A Griefers Guide to Pocket Kingdom

[Cressence: RankUps and Combining]

Firing up the Forge
Before you jump up and shoot off to the next map, spend a little time crafting some new equipment for your troops. To craft an item, you need at least one ore, and one mold. You might have a piece of Copper or two from your battles, but unless you bought some from the shop you won't have any molds. For now, buy a few Sword and Armor molds, and if you're low on Copper pick up some more of that too. (You can check your current items by using the List command in the Party menu.)

To begin creating an item, go to the new Lab button on the main menu, and select the Combine option. You'll be taken to a new screen with four slots, for materials. The top slot is for the type of ore you wish to use with the item. Select it, and put a piece of Copper in. The second slot is for the type of mold, which determines the type of item you're creating. Select it, and put an Armor Mold in. The bottom two slots are for optional materials, which can add an elemental property or an additional effect to the item. Weapons and armor can contain one effect, and one elemental property in addition to their normal stat boost, while accessories can hold two effects but have no stat boost. Try putting a Garnet (Jewel) and a Lute (Others) into the armor, I'm sure you've found a couple of them by now. When you've finished, choose Combine.

You should end up seeing a screen that displays a preview of the resulting item, and gives you a percentage chance of success. You'll have an 80% chance of success with Copper Armor, and this item will also have an elemental attribute of Fire, and increase unit AGI. To create the item, choose Combine again, and if you're lucky, the item will be created. If you'd like to experiment with item creation a bit, take a look at PK Warcry's Item Builder.

Spend some time making a few more suits of Copper Armor and Copper Swords - they'll come in very useful for the next map.

Getting Equipped
Other than the cost, there is no good reason not to have some type of item on every character. Even if they don't have any additional effects, weapons and armor provide a significant bonus to a units offensive or defensive abilities. For example, a basic Soldier has 19 Defense without armor. Add Copper Armor and that unit now has 29 Defense, more than three times the amount. Weapons have a similar effect, but boost both Attack and Hit Percentage - also very valuable.

A unit must be part of a party to be equipped, and once they are removed from a party the item returns to your inventory. They can also only carry one item, which makes the choice especially important. To equip a unit with an item, go into the Party menu, choose Form, and select the party you wish to equip. To the right of the unit icon there is an empty space for equipment - move your cursor there and select the box and you will be able to choose the item for this unit to carry.

Moving on up
It's time to move to the next map, Cressence. To move to a new area, go to the Map screen, and choose Move. You'll be zoomed out to the World Map, and be able to direct your kingdom to move to a new location. Traveling between areas takes loot, not much, but probably enough to pay the wages of all the pixies it takes to carry your kingdom on their shoulders. Right now you only have one option for travel, so hit the confirmation (5) button to move your kingdom, wait to move, and hit the back (7) button to drop down to the new Map.

When you get to the Map screen, your Fabbis will stop in to tell you a bit of information on the area, as well as to let you know the Lab is open. If you hadn't known that already, it would have been great news, but there's something even better about Cressence - the Shop sells RankUp Molds, which you can use to create RankUp Emblems.

Basic Emblems
Unlike normal crafting, to complete an emblem you need to put in items for both optional components as well, and these items determine what emblem you'll get. There's a full list of emblems in the PK Warcry Emblem Database, but listed here are the basic emblems you'll need now:

 MoldOreItem1Item2Success
Warrior EmblemCopperGarnetBlack Leaf90%
Warrior EmblemCopperAzuliteBlack Leaf90%
Warrior EmblemCopperAgateBlack Leaf90%
Hound EmblemCopperGarnetYellow Leaf90%
Hound EmblemCopperAzuliteYellow Leaf90%
Hound EmblemCopperAgateYellow Leaf90%
Bone EmblemCopperGarnetRed Leaf90%
Bone EmblemCopperAzuliteRed Leaf90%
Bone EmblemCopperAgateRed Leaf90%

You should already have plenty of Black Leaf in stock, but probably less Yellow or Red (if any), as they're a bit tougher to find in the early maps. Each of these emblems can be used to perform different RankUps on your units. Try creating a Warrior Emblem, Hound Emblem, and Bone Emblem if you can - these will allow you to completely upgrade a part, and get you well prepared for the next boss (and he's a tough one!).

Build them bigger, stronger, faster...
Now it's time to decide where to go. Most important for your immediate attention are the Warrior, Archer, and Thief units, which come from the Soldier you already have, and the Priest, which comes from the Noble. You can find out what RankUp possibilities a unit has by checking out their page in the PK Warcry Unit Database.

To rank up a unit, you need to meet three requirements. First, you need to have the emblem a rankup requires. Second, the unit must meet the level requirement. Finally, you must have enough Victory Points (VP) to have the right to create the unit. By defeating the boss castle in Elynotis you earned 10 VP, giving you the right to create the fist set of units. Each boss castle you defeat, or each player online, will also earn you an additional 10 VP (losing a battle to another player online will cost you 10 VP though, so watch out!). If you need a few more VP, you can always try defeating a boss a second time - you'll still get the VP, and it doesn't really effect anything else.

To actually perform the unit upgrade, you need to remove the unit from their party. Head to the Party menu and remove one of your Soldiers from a party, then jump back to the Lab to do the actual upgrade. This time, head to the RankUp area. The screen will look very similar to the Combine screen, but with only two slots available. In the toip slot, put the Soldier you just freed up. In the second slot, put a Warrior Emblem. Now select RankUp. Like item creation, you'l get the chance to check out the resulting unit before the change becomes permanent - the only difference is that there's no chance of failure here. The preview screen you see now is for a Warrior, a basic upgrade to the Soldier unit you had before. Go ahead and select RankUp to make the change permanent - the unit will become a Warrior, and their level will be reset to zero. Place the unit back in your group when you're done, and head out to the map to give it a try.

Heading towards the boss
Search for new kingdoms and battles in Cressence the same way you did before. The emenies here will be a bit tougher, but the items they drop will be better. With some luck, you'll end up finding some Yellow Leaf and Red Leaf, as well as some new items and jewels to use in your equipment creation. Keep searching, scouting, and ownzoring until you uncover Red Wolf Castle, the boss location for Cressence, and your next destination. The first thing you'll notice when it turnes up is that this castle is listed as having two floors - in order to reach the boss, your party will need to get to the last floor in one trip, with every floor being a different battle. You can leave after any floor, but if you do you'll need to start over from the beginning next time you attack. Your party health will carry through between the floors as well, making units that can heal essential, especially for dungeons that reach over 10 floors. Before you attempt the boss though, make sure your units are upgraded, and that they're all wearing an item - this battle will be significantly more difficult than any battle you've come across before.

  Unit Equipment Tactics
1. Warrior Copper Armor High Rank
2. Thief Copper Armor High Rank
3. Priest Copper Armor High Rank
4. Noble Copper Sword High Rank

This above group is a sample party that has gotten through the second battle. Note that most of the units in the front are wearing Copper Armor. You'll be fighting against three thieves and a rogue in the final battle, so a high defense is critical. The AI on your troops should also be set to High Rank - this is important for boss battles, because defeating the boss unit in the group will result in an immediate victory, even if the other units are still alive. With a ranked up and well-equipped group, you shouldn't have too much of a problem getting through and heading to Gulldria.
