Mythos: Max Schaefer Interview

Max Schaefer is in the hot seat at Games Radar. He talks Mythos in an intriguingly titled article, ""We just wanted to whack skeletons with clubs".

GamesRadar: A major selling point for Mythos so far has been Flagship's involvement with the Diablo series, along with the similarities in style between the two games. Was there a feeling amongst the team of wanting to get back to your roots after a bigger and more experimental project like Hellgate: London?

Max Schaefer: That was part of it. There was always a feeling with the Diablo series that we never pushed it into modern times. One of the inspirations for Mythos was to go back and create the essential magic that the Diablo gameplay style provided, but do it in a simple, extensible way so we could explore moving it into a more interesting, dynamic, and social world. The part that was sort of a given was going back to the roots of gameplay, and the experimental part is a combination of fusing MMO elements into the game, and using a whole new business model and delivery system.

I had to throw in the obligatory Diablo/Diablo 2 question and answer...Schaefer was a god in my eyes in the D2 days. *grins*
